Marisa Sparacino and Maria Shields are Unified Coaches and Youth Activation Committee Advisors in the high school. Each year, we get a group of students and teachers together to participate in the Polar Plunge to raise money for Special Olympics New York. Special Olympics New York provides inclusive opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities, who compete in Olympic-style coached sports. Special Olympics encourages these athletes to stay active for life and to achieve goals at local and international contests. This year sparks the 18th Annual Polar Plunge for Special Olympics NY in Buffalo, New York!! A group of Starpoint High School Unified athletes and YAC Members have chosen to take the plunge and help us raise money for Special Olympics. On Friday, December 6th, this group will travel to Woodlawn Beach where they will plunge into Lake Erie with a group of other local high school staff and students.
