On Friday, March 13th, Starpoint High School hosted its 14th annual Locked-In to Lock-Out Cancer event, bringing together 305 students who pledged to stay awake from 8pm to 6:00am. In partnership with Roswell Park and Schools Against Cancer, the student-led committee has been planning this beautiful evening since October. The night kicked off with inspiring welcomes from Michelle Moore, Chuck Collard of the Courage of Carly Fund, and London Patane from Schools Against Cancer. Participants enjoyed a memorable night of live entertainment, competitive games, and food buffets while supporting a vital cause. A special thank you goes to the dedicated Starpoint faculty members who volunteered as chaperones to ensure the event ran smoothly. Since its inception in 2013, the Locked-In to Lock-Out Cancer Club has raised a remarkable $183,444 to support cancer research and patient care at Roswell Park. This committed group of students looks forward to hosting a few more fundraisers before officially sharing the 2026 donation total this June.

On Thursday, March 19, Junior‘s were able to go to the National College Fair at the Buffalo Convention Center to meet with the 175 different colleges and universities from across the United States and parts of Europe. Students were able to meet with admissions counselors and ask them specific questions about their programs of study and life on campus. After the college fair we were able to take a tour of D’Youville University to see their amazing facilities, hear about some of their popular programs, and learn of some scholarship opportunities. We had the added surprise of hearing from a former Starpoint graduate and current PhD of Pharmacy candidate Brianna Jerla.

CIA Cub (Compassion in Action) is a grade 9-12 student-led group dedicated to making a positive difference in our school and community through volunteerism. CIA Club members have committed their next volunteer day to Sleep in Heavenly Peace where they will spend an afternoon building beds for kids in need.

SHP is a non-profit organization that constructs and donates beds for children. SHP believes that a bed is a foundational need for proper physical, emotional and mental well-being. New factory packaged twin sheets, comforters and pillows are always in demand and so CIA Club is calling on the Starpoint community for help. All donations can be brought to Student Services February 9th - February 13th
