About

The Starpoint Central School District is pleased to offer a Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program during the 2024-25 school year.  UPK is a special program funded by the New York State Education Department to provide an early learning experience for the children of eligible families. Starpoint is expected to receive funding for a full and half-day educational program. Details regarding UPK are listed below.

Applications are now closed for the 2024-2025 school year. If you wish to be added to the waitlist, please contact Ms. Angela Glena at 716-210-2103 and fill out the google form.

Overview

  • The 2024-25 program is limited to children who turn four years old by December 1, 2024.

  • Starpoint CSD partners with three local day care agencies for the program: Bunny Bunch Day Care, on Townline Road in Wheatfield as well as Niagara Falls Blvd in Niagara Falls, Small World Too on Commerce Ct. in North Tonawanda, and Kandyland Kids, on Beach Ridge Road in Lockport.

  • The students that attend Bunny Bunch or Small World Too attend five (5) full-days for five (5) hours each day with lunch. The time is 9-2 with the option of wrap around care arranged with the agency.

  • The children that attend Kandyland Kids attend five (5) half-days for two and a half (2.5) hours each day. This day care agency offers our UPK program in the morning (9:00-11:30) or afternoon (12:30-3:00). The specific time must be worked out between the parent and the agency.

  • Starpoint cannot guarantee parents will receive their preferred choice of location or time.

  • The program follows the school district calendar, with 180 days of attendance (September – June).

  • Families are responsible for transportation to and from the local agency.

  • The program is grant funded. Starpoint CSD will be using funds allocated by NYS and are dependent on that for the program.  There is no cost to parents.

  • There is limited availability for the program based on grant funding. If more children apply than there are available slots, the district will hold a random selection process in the form of a lottery.

  • If the district receives more applications that spots, a random lottery will be conducted in the spring to determine which students will participate.  Each student will be given a number and numbers will be selected at random. Families with multiples (twins, triplets, etc.) will have each child entered as an individual student. The selection of one twin or triplet has no effect on the selection number of other siblings during the lottery process. Families will be informed if they were selected and will need to indicate whether they accept the opening within a certain timeframe.

  • You must be a resident of the district by the application deadline to be included in the lottery.

  • Your child must be up-to-date with New York State vaccination requirements.

Waitlist Process

  • Families who have a child selected for UPK will be notified in the spring and will be responsible for confirming their acceptance into the UPK program.

  • When an opening becomes available, the waitlist will be accessed in the order families' numbers were drawn during the lottery system.

  • Location preference will not be considered when the waitlist is accessed.

  • When an opening becomes available, families will be called and/or emailed.

  • Families will have 48 hours to indicate whether they accept the opening.

  • As openings occur, the waitlist will continue to be accessed accordingly until there are no more families on the list.
