2/16/24

Congratulations to this week's Spartans Athletes of the Week: 

From Girls BasketballAllison Milleville.   Against Cardinal O'Hara, Allison had 13 points including 2-three pointers.  Against Depew, she had 4- three pointers scoring 20 points in total.   Also from Girls Basketball, Megan Milleville.  Megan scored 10 points against Cardinal O’Hara along with grabbing 5 rebounds and 4 blocks.  Against Depew, Megan scored 7 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and 1 steal.   Will Allison and Megan please report to room L-16 for your pictures. 

Last night the Unified Bowling Team had another big win against Williamsville! Starpoint took the lead in the very last match.  Shout out to Tyler Schwagler, Connor Lauffer, Olivia Cook, Matthew McLellan, Ella Ammerman, and Bethany Meahl for helping Startpoint finish strong.   Another shout out to Nina Briggs who set a new personal record of a 130!  Great job by all!  

The JV Girls’ Basketball Team ended their season with a 70-26 win over Sweet Home. Bringing their record to 13-5, and ending the season with a 10-1 stretch.  Cloe Darlak  led the way with 18 points, Baylee Budz added 10 and Rya Anastasi  had 9. Great season girls! 

The Lady Spartans beat Sweet Home 53-27 to conclude their season.  They finished 18-1. Natalie Prezioso had 12,  Ava Anastasi had 10 and Sophia Waliszewski had 9 points. The Lady Spartans will play Saturday Feb. 24th at home.

On Tuesday night the JV Boys Basketball Team overcame a 19 point first half deficit to upset the visiting Amherst Tigers 56-53. Your Spartans came alive half way through the second quarter, cutting the deficit to 12 before taking a 1 pt lead into the 4th. With less than a minute to go  Brennon “BT” Tokarczyk scooped up a loose ball and laid it in to give the Spartans a 3 point advantage. BT then wrangled the rebound after Amherst missed the shot and swung the ball to Mason Mikulski to run out the clock.   Nolan Connor led all scorers with a career high 29 points including 5 three pointers.

The Boys’ Swim Team completed their season yesterday by competing in the Section VI State Qualifier meet. Tristan Madden placed in the Top 8 in both the 100 Free and 100 Back in two best times.  Russell Gian  also swam a best time in the 100 Breast. Matt Edwards placed in the top 16 in the 100 Breast.  Great Season boys!

Congratulations to the JV cheerleading team for their first place win at their last competition. Great season ladies!

2/12/24

The Boys swim team finished 7th at the Class B Swimming Championship on Saturday.  Matt Edwards placed 8th in the 100 Free and 4th in the 100 Breast. Tristan Madden placed 8th in the 200 IM and 6th in the 100 Back.  Mark DeFilippo placed 8th in the 200 Free.  Keatin Lemieux, Grant Benedict, Spencer Culligan.  Joe Tacca, Russell Gian and Sean Curvin all placed in the Top 16.

Congratulations to this week's Spartans Athletes of the Week: From Boys Basketball, Jack Kempf. In the team's two wins last week, Jack averaged 14.5 points and 22.5 rebounds per game. From Boys Bowling, Ryan Caro.  Ryan bowled a 673 series with a high game of 279 against Clarence. From Boys Indoor Track, Billy Lubs.  This past weekend, Billy reset his indoor program record in the triple jump with a jump of 41'2". He is currently ranked in the top 5 in WNY in the triple jump. From Girls Ice Hockey, Samantha Latini.  Samantha finished the regular season as the team's leading point scorer and third in the league in scoring. Additionally, Samantha was selected to the 2nd team all star team. From Wrestling, Sean McDonald, Lucas Clark, and Spencer Argentieri .  At last weekend's class tournament Sean finished first in his weight class while Lucas and Spencer both finished in second place in their weight classes. All three wrestlers will be competing in this weekend's Section VI championships.  From Boys Ice Hockey, Nick Prezioso. In the team's last two games, Nick did not give up a goal in 6 periods of hockey including recording a 32 save shut-out against Niagara Wheatfield.   Will Jack, Ryan, Billy, Samantha, Sean, Lucas, Spencer, and Nick, please report to L-16 for your pictures. 

Congratulations to the Varsity Girls Hockey on their 4-2 win in the Section 6 semifinals. Sammy Latini  had 5 points including a hat trick.  Faith O’Connor chipped in with 3 assists and awesome defense.  Olivia Terranova did a bang up job working the penalty box door while recovering from injury. Marina Mansfield  and Natalee Lawrence were outstanding all night.  The girls are in the Section 6 finals on Monday, 8:00 P.M. at Buff. State.  Please come cheer us on! 

The Boys Swim team had an outstanding meet yesterday at the Class B Prelims Championships in OLean. They swam 27 out of 37 possible times at the meet. Matt Edwards (100 Free and 100 Breast), Tristan Madden (200 IM and 100 Back) and Mark DeFilippo (200 Free) placed in the Top 8.  Placing in the top 16 were Grant Benedict (100 Back), Sean Curvin (100 Fly), Spencer Culligan(200 Free and 500 Free),  Russell Gian (200 Free and 100 Breast),  Joe Tacca (50 Free and 100 Free) and Keaton Lemieux (200 IM and 100 Breast).  Sam Wichhart had two great swims in the 100 Fly and 100 Back. Great Job boys. Let's have a great meet on Saturday!

The Lady Spartans lost to Cardinal O Hara last night.  Allie Milleville came away with 13 points and Megan Milleville contributed 10. Tomorrow they face Depew at Depew! Thank you for all the support!!!

Last night the Unified Bowling Team defeated Clarence with a score of 6-3. Great bowling by all. Their next home match is Friday.

Last night the Unified Bowling Team came up just short in a match against Williamsville.  Congratulations to Connor Lauffer  who set a new personal record by bowling a 171!  

The JV Girls Basketball Team beat Williamsville East 32-24.  Cloe Darlak  and  Kennedy Szpilewsli  led the way with 10 points each. 

The Varsity Girls Basketball team won their game against Williamsville East last night earning them a 16-0 record.    Ava Anastasi led the Lady Spartans with 15 points and 7 steals, Natalie Prezioso  had 10 points and 4 steals and Megan Milleville had 8 points and 10 rebounds.    Lastly, please join me in congratulating our Lady Spartans in clinching the ECIC Division II title!!!

Congratulations to the JV Cheerleading Team for one, second place finish and two, first place finishes at their last 3 competitions! Great job ladies! 

Congratulations to the Varsity Cheerleading Team who competed at Orchard Park yesterday and placed first in the Class B Division. The team also earned the title of Grand Champions and had the highest score of 32 teams!  Next Saturday the team competes at ECIC’s, all are welcome to come and support!

Congratulations to this week's Spartans Athletes of the Week!   From Girls Basketball, Maddie Schmidt.   In the team's last 4 games Maddie has averaged 9 points, 3 steals, 2 assists and 5 rebounds.  Maddie gives teams constant pressure on defense and reads the play extremely well.  

From Girls Basketball,  Sophia Waliszewski.  In the team's last 4 games Sophia has averaged 11 points, 5 steals, 5 assists and 6 rebounds.  She is our point guard who handles defensive pressure and helps to run our offense.  

From Boys Basketball, Luke Bradley.  In the team's last 2 games Luke is averaging 8 ppg and 8.5 rebounds per game. He had a season high 11 rebounds vs. Hamburg.

The Girls’ High School Hockey Team wrapped up an amazing regular season with a 6-0 victory.  Marina Mansfield had a hat trick, Natalee Lawrence  had a goal and 2 assists, Sammy Latini  had 2 assists and Ashley Mainstone  picked up an assist.   

Congratulations to the Varsity Boys Basketball Team on their 59-43 victory over Sweet Home on Tuesday.   Jack Kempf had 17 points and 25 rebounds.   Jackson Griesmer had 19 points and Cohen Vogel  had 9 points 8 assists and 4 steals.  The boys finally have a home game tomorrow night versus Williamsville East at 7:00. Fan support is always appreciated!

Congratulations to the Varsity Girls’ Hockey Team on their first-ever Section 6 regular season championship in their 6 short years of existence!  The girls get a 1st round bye as a result.  Their first playoff game opponent and time is to be determined.  Please consider coming to Buff State to cheer the girls on when the schedule comes out. 

Congratulations to the Unified Bowling Team on their first win of the season last night against Lancaster!  Connor Lauffer,  Matthew McLellan and Jack Ginnanne greatly contributed to the team win with their high scores. Great bowling by all!

1/30/24

The JV Girls’ Basketball Team beat Amherst, 37-16. Led by strong defense, giving up only 2 points in the first half. Olivia Schmidt and Grace Peters led the way with 6 points each. 

The Lady Spartans defeated the Amherst Tigers 65-41. Top scorers for the team include Maddie Schmidt with 20 points, 7 rebounds, 6 steals and 5 assists, Natalie Prezioso  had 13 points and Ava Anastasi had 11 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists.  Congrats to the Lady Spartans!!!

1/29/24

The Boys swim team collectively had outstanding swims this weekend. As a team we had 24 best times. Leading the team was Spencer Culligan and Grant Benedict with 4 best times in every event. Mark DeFilippo, Joe Tacca had three best times and Keaton Lemieux, Russell Gian and Hayden Schuler each had  two best times. Rounding it out with a good performance was Sam Wichhart, Tristan Madden and Kenny Jones.  Our next meet will be the Class B Championships next week.  Keep up the good work boys!

Congrats to the Girls’ HockeyTeam with their 5-3 victory over HEWS.  Sophomore standout Sam Latini had two goals, moving her up to 74 career points.  Marina Mansfield chipped in with one goal to keep her in the top ten in scoring. Faith O’Connor had three assists in the victory.

The Varsity Girls’ Hockey Team pushed their record to 11-1 with their victory over Williamsville 5-1. Sammy Latini had 2 goals and one assist.  Marina Mansfield had 1 goal and 2 assists. Natalee Lawrence had 1 goal and 1 assist. Faith O’Connor had 2 assists and Ashley Mainstone chipped in with an assist.

The Girls’ Varsity Basketball Team beat Wilson 55-31. The Lady Spartans are 13-0.  Maddie Schmidt scored 14 points and had 4 rebounds, Ava Anastasi had 13 points including 3 trifectas and 5 steals, and Megan Milleville had 12 points and 16 rebounds. The Lady Spartans host Hamburg for their Senior night tomorrow 1/25 at 7:00 P.M.

The JV Girls’ Basketball Team beat West Seneca West yesterday 41-17. Led by strong defense, including allowing no points in the 3rd quarter. Olivia Schmidt led the way with 11 points.  Maria Kwasniak  added 10.

The Girls’ Varsity Basketball team defeated West Seneca West yesterday by a score of 72-50.  Natalie Prezioso led the Lady Spartans with 15 points, Sophia Waliszewski  had 13 points, 9 assists and 6 steals, Ava Anastasi  had 12 points, 4 assists and 5 steals and Caitlin Deney had 9 points and 3 steals. The Lady Spartans face Wilson tonight at Wilson.

1/22/24

The Girls Varsity Basketball Team beat Williamsville North by a score of 70-45. The are currently  11-0. Megan Milleville recorded a double double with 15 points and 14 rebounds, Sophia Waliszewski had 14 points and 6 steals and Maddie Schmidt and Ava Anastasi recorded 12 points each. Their next game is tonight against West Seneca West.  

Congratulations to this week's Spartans Athletes of the Week:   From Girls Basketball, Ava Anastasi.  In the team's win at St. Mary's, Ava scored 12 points and added 5 rebounds, 6 steals, and 4 assists. In the team's win against Williamsville East, Ava scored 11 points and added 2 rebounds and 2 steals. From Boys Ice Hockey, Gavin Russell.   In the team's win against Lew-Port, Gavin recorded a hat trick.  From Wrestling, Sean McDonald. Sean finished 2nd at the Lockport Invitational in the 108-pound division improving his season record to 19-5.  Will Ava, Gavin, and Sean please report to L-16 for your pictures.

The Boys’ Swim Team improved to 6-1 last night defeating Hamburg 58-40. Double winners were Matt Edwards(100 Free and 100 Breast), and Keaton Lemieux   (200 Free and 500 Free). Outstanding times were swam by Mark DeFilippo, Spencer Culligan, James Kwasniak, Grant Benedict, Hayden Schuler. Russel Gian, and Sam Wichhart. Our next home meet is tomorrow at  11:00 A.M. vs. Olean.

The JV Girls’ Basketball Team beat Williamsville East last night 42-17. Olivia Schmidt led the way with 9 and Bella Figliomeni added 5.

The Varsity Girls’ Basketball Team defeated Williamsville East 82-29 making the Lady Spartans 10-0.  Caitlin Deney led the Spartans with four 3 points totaling 14 points. Maddie Schmidt had 12 points, 9 rebounds and 4 steals, and Natalie Prezioso and Ava Anastasi contributed 11 points.  The Lady Spartans play Sweet Home next Thursday at Sweet Home.

The JV Girls’ Basketball Team beat St. Mary’s yesterday 47-30. Olivia Schmidt led the way with 18. Baylee Budz had a few important steals and added a basket in the 4th quarter to help open the lead! 

The Lady Spartans Basketball Team secured a thrilling 58-55 victory against St Mary's, making their record 9-0.  Standout performances from Ava Anastasi and Sophia Waliszewski, each contributing 12 points. Natalie Prezioso added 10 points to clinch the win.  The Lady Spartans play Williamsville East at home tomorrow night! Come out and support!  

Congratulations to the Varsity Boys Basketball team on their 68-44 victory over Sweet Home last night.   The boys used a balanced attack that included 4 players scoring in double figures, highlighted by Noah Umstead's career high 18 points!  The crowd support was once again fantastic and greatly appreciated!

This clinic will help you brush up on your skills as well as provide opportunities for actual gameplay.  No experience is required to participate, however you will need your stick, mouth guard, and goggles. More information is located with Coach Kennedy in room L-18.  Please sign up and submit your payment by Friday, January 12th. 

The JV Girls’ Basketball Team beat Amherst 50-23 on Saturday!  It was a whole team effort as 10 different girls scored. Maria Kwasniak led the way with 10 and Cloe Darlak added 8.

From Girls Ice Hockey, Faith O'Connor.  Faith has recorded 9 points in 9 games from her defenseman position. The team is only giving up an average of 1.18 goals per game in large part to her outstanding defensive play.   From Wrestling, Sean McDonald.  Sean took first place in the 108-pound division at the Akron Tournament by pinning his opponent in the finals. From Boys Ice Hockey, Jacob Cyrek.  In the team's wins over Amherst and Hamburg, Jacob scored 2 goals and added 5 assists. Will Faith, Sean, and Jacob please report to L-16 for your pictures.

The Girls Varsity Basketball Team defeated Hamburg 51-24.  The Lady Spartans played great team defense throughout the entire game.    Maddie Schmidt had 15 points, 11 points and 4 steals.  Ava Anastasi had 10 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists, and Natalie Prezioso had 8 points and 2 steals. The Lady Spartans play at home on Saturday at 12:30 pm. Come out and support.

The Girls’ Hockey Team remains hot winning their last three games; two over winter break and one last night which was also a birthday bash for Marina Mansfield against LIDA.  Natalee Lawrence, Marina Mansfield,  Sammy Latini, Faith O’Connor and Olivia Terranova continues to produce multiple points a game.  Be proud of your Starpoint girls and their relentless pursuit for victory.

Congratulations to the Boys' Varsity Basketball Team on their 60-40 victory last night over West Seneca West, highlighted by the fact that 10 different Spartans scored.   The boys return to action Monday night when they host Sweet Home in their last home game until February. Fan support is always greatly appreciated!

Over the break, the Boys’ Varsity Hockey Team finished with a 2-1 record.  Starting off, the boys played Orchard Park and fell just short with a score of 4-3.  One goal apiece was scored by Brady Cunningham, Sammy Prez, and Jacob Cyrek.  Next, the boys took on a tough Williamsville South Team and were able to beat them 7-2.  Two goals each were scored by Jacob Cyrek,  and Gavin Russell.  Frankie Cardarella, Reid Marriner,   and Sam Prezioso each added one goal.  To top off the break, the boys also beat Amherst 9-2.  Reid Marriner, and Frank Cardarella both recorded Hat tricks, Gavin Russell had two, and Jacob Cyrek had one.  All around the boys had a great break and are looking forward to putting a beat down on the Hamburg Bulldogs at home on Wednesday.

The Girls Varsity Basketball team improved their record to 6-0 over the winter break winning the Kenmore West Holiday Classic.  The team beat Nardin in the first game 61-31. Maddie Schmidt had 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals, Allie Milleville had 15 points, and Ava Anastasi had 11 points, 3 assists, and 3 rebounds.  In the second matchup, Starpoint beat Kenmore West 46-23. Leaders for Starpoint included Ava Anastasi with 16 points, and 5 rebounds, Megan Milleville with 14 points and 17 rebounds, and Sophia Waliszewski with 5 points, 7 assists, and 3 steals. Congrats to our Lady Spartans.
