    Advance Placement Process (APP)

The Starpoint Central School District has chosen to participate in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s Advance Placement Process.  This program provides an opportunity for highly skilled and exceptionally talented 7th and 8th grade students to compete on Varsity and Junior Varsity level sports.

The intent of the Advance Placement Process program is to provide safe and suitable participation for selecting and classifying students for interscholastic athletics.  It focuses on determining a student’s readiness for interscholastic competition.  Guidelines for the new Advance Placement Process screening were established by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association and take effect for the fall of 2015 with updates in July 2016 and December 2017.  The screening process involves:

    1.    Administrative approval—athletic director in consultation with student’s physical education instructor, and coaches deems student to be highly skilled and an exceptional talent as a 7th or 8th grader (likely to play 50% of time).

    2.    Parental application and permission

    3.    Student’s athletic profile:

    -       medical clearance by school physician

    -       stage of maturity (physical)

    -       height, weight, and age

    -       physical fitness achievement level determined by prior experience in the sport

    4.    Evaluation by Athletic Director

    5.    Physical Fitness Testing
