*Kenan Arts Council Scholarship. This scholarship is available to any High School senior planning to major in art, dance, design, music, or theater. Applicants must have an average of at least 80%. The application is on the Scholarship page of the Student Services Website. Deadline: March 31, 2023. Award Amount: $1000. (3/31)
*The New York State Horticultural Society is offering the Paul Baker Memorial Scholarship. These are three (3) - $500 scholarships for a senior who has volunteer service, work ethic, family values, and commitment to service in the agricultural community and involvement in their communities. Application is on the Scholarship Page. Deadline March 31, 2023. (3/31)
*The Character Council of WNY Scholarship is for Seniors who should download and complete either the fillable PDF application from our website http://charactercouncilwny.org/ scholarship/. (3/31)*The Starpoint Teachers’ Association will select a number of graduating Starpoint Seniors to receive a one-time cash award from our organization. Awards will be based on evidence of strong academic achievement, leadership ability, community service and/or working with or helping others, positive character traits, and a commitment to continuing one’s education at a 2 or 4-year college. (3/31)*The American Legion Auxiliary of Higher Education is offering $1,000 Scholarship for seniors based on academics, extracurricular activities, community involvement, and leadership potential. Applicants must be a direct or adopted descendent of/or related to a member of the American Legion. Deadline is March 31st. Application on Scholarship Page. (3/31)*Olivia Bears - Jessica Stone Memorial Scholarship - $1,000. The applicant must be a survivor of a life-threatening illness or currently diagnosed with an illness. (4/1)*LOCKPORT ELKS LODGE SCHOLARSHIP is for seniors pursuing a 4-year degree in education, engineering, sciences, humanities, business, accounting, and mathematics or a 2-year degree in law enforcement. The application is on the website. The DEADLINE is APRIL 1, 2023. (4/1)*The Niagara County Sheriff's Office Victim Services scholarship in honor of National Crime Victims' Rights Week. One, $250.00 scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior in Niagara County who has been impacted by crime. Application on the Scholarship Page is due April 17. (4/17)*The MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION - JUSTIN BUDWEY SCHOLARSHIP - is offering a $1,000 Scholarship for a senior entering college who plans on working in the field of Human Services. The Application is on the Scholarship website page and the deadline is April 7th. (4/7)*NY Water Environment Association Scholarship for seniors enrolling in an environmental-related curriculum in college. The application is on the Student Service Scholarship page and is due on April 21st. (4/21)*The 2023 Outstanding Youth Scholarship Award is for Seniors who reside in the Town of Lockport and is now posted on the Student Services Scholarship Page on the website. Submissions are due by April 28th. Two winners will receive a $1,000.00 scholarship and Town recognition. (4/28)*Kiwanis Club of Niagara Wheatfield Foundation Tom Beachy Memorial Scholarship for seniors planning to pursue a career in education. It is available to any Niagara County student for $2000. We are looking for the student who best exemplifies the many qualities that Tom has. He was an athlete, teacher, veteran, mentor, and community servant. (5/1)*The Kiwanis Club of Niagara Wheatfield is also offering two scholarships for $1000 each for seniors who reside in either the TOWN OF WHEATFIELD or the TOWN OF NIAGARA. We are looking for students who have not only done community service but have come to love it and know the joy to be found in helping others. Application on Student Services Scholarship Page. *The Starpoint Scholastic Bowl lost last night. BUT you need to know the story. These participants didn’t play a single second last year and made it to the championship this year. These are all Juniors; we’ll be back: Quinn Hurley, Captain Connor Church, Aidan Priesch, Charlie Olson, Captain Hayden Schuler, Frankie Payne, and Captain Zach Ely. We’ll work out and come back with a fury next season!!! (3/29)*Today’s disability of the day is ADHD. ADHD is one of the most common neurodevelopmentaldisorders of childhood. It is usually first diagnosed in childhood and often lasts into adulthood. Children with ADHD may have trouble paying attention, and controlling impulsive behaviors (may act without thinking about what the result will be), or be overly active. Believe it or not, there are some famous people who have this disability including Justin Timberlake and Michael Phelps. Celebrate this disability with us by buying an orange ribbon and cookie in the fine arts lobby! (3/29) SPORTS*Interested in playing baseball or softball with some friends? The Town of Pendleton has brought back its baseball and softball program! Softball and baseball season begins May 1st and runs until July 31st. You can register now until April 1, 2023. (4/1)*Over the past weekend, seven Starpoint students competed in the NHSCA High School Nationals wrestling tournament held in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Zach Caldwell, Gage LaPlante, and Griffin LaPlante were All-American place winners and are now nationally ranked in their respective age/weight classes. Joining them at the tournament were Caden Barrientos, Matt Caldwell, Jaron Barrientos, and Kole Hasely. Both Caden and Matt did make it to the All-American round in their respective weight classes. Congratulations!! (3/29)*Boys JV Lacrosse starts the season at 2-1 in their first 3 games with a 14-1 win against Buffalo and a 7-4 win against Depew. William Bichler leads the way on offense with 9 points, through 3 games, while Brady Crissman and Rian Kunkle hold things down on the defensive end. The Spartans travel to Medina on Thursday for a 5’ o clock matchup. (3/29)*The Varsity Boys' Lacrosse Team lost their first game of the season last night at Iroquois, 12 to 4, bringing their record to 3 wins and 1 loss. Braden Allen had 2 goals, and Will Mainstone and Alec Kirk each added one goal in the loss. The Spartans have their home opener tomorrow at 5:00 PM vs. Medina. Come out and support the boys.
