The Starpoint Central School District is committed to the education of all children. It is our mission and responsibility to provide all children with the necessary support and assistance to be successful learners. To that end, the district provides a variety of interventions and accommodations to assist all children. Some of these interventions include:
- Parent/Teacher Conferences
- Response to Intervention (RTI) Supports in Math & Reading
- Psychological Services
- School Counseling
- Social Worker Support
- Speech and Language Services
- Health Services
- Building-Based Intervention Teams
- English taught as a Second Language (ESL)
In a small percentage of the general education population there are students who require more intense or specialized instruction, for those students a referral to the Committee on Special Education (CSE) may be appropriate. The CSE has the responsibility of evaluating, determining eligibility and providing special education services for children ages 5-21. In addition, a Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) is in place. The CPSE reviews and coordinates services for children ages 3-5.
As a parent, you are vital member of the CSE and CPSE team that is responsible for developing an appropriate educational program for your child. You must be given opportunities to participate in the discussion and decision-making process about your child's needs for special education.
