DAILY SPORTS UPDATES
*Last night, your Spartan Spikers got the playoff train rolling against the Lumberjacks of North Tonawanda HS. Somewhat of a slow roll, but wins are wins and Starpoint took three of them on the road by scores of 25-23, 26-24, and 25-20. Starpoint now moves into the semi-finals Wednesday evening against the undefeated, #1 ranked Grand Island Vikings. It's a tough test for your Spartans, but they have not shied away from challenges yet this year, and knowing that they have the support of the Spartan faithful behind them only makes us hungrier to bag the other "W." Tune on Wednesday night, starting at 6:00 PM. The link will be posted on the Stapoint Athletics calendar page late Tuesday or early Wednesday. (5/11)
Do you enjoy seeing Williamsville South go down in defeat twice in the same week to the Spartan Spikers? Check. Do you like it when those same Spartan Spikers take on one of the best teams in WNY and defeat them in a match packed with highlights, such as when a 6'7" Penn State volleyball commit gets absolutely roofed by a 5'10" setter? Check and check. Wanna see some of those matches, but weren't allowed in the gym? If so, CHECK out the replays of these and all matches this year on Mr. Dell'Oso's YouTube page, which can be accessed through the Starpoint Website's athletics calendar link. One more regular season match to go this Friday, which is also Senior Night against cross town rival Lockport.
*Although last week ended on a bit of a low note, your Varsity Boys Spartan Spikers took it to the Billies of Williamsville South, Monday night in straight sets, lifting their overall record to 8-3 while maintaining a 7-3 league record. The Spartans try to avenge a five set loss to West Seneca East tonight on the Starpoint campus. After that, the Spartans will be home Wednesday against the aforementioned Billies of Will South and will wrap up the regular season Friday night against cross-town rival Lockport as the Spartans recognize the NINE Senior members of the team who will play their final regular season home match.
*After an incredibly intense five set loss last Friday to West Seneca East, the Boys' Varsity Spartans Spikers were in a surly mood, and took out that frustration against the Tigers of Amherst High in straight sets Monday night 25-18 (meh) 25-5 (SMACK DOWN) and 25-13 (nighty night, lights out). The Spartans are currently 7-2 overall and 6-2 in league, and have a Fucillo-esque HUGE match Friday night in Hamburg.
Your Boys' Spartan Spikers, after a stumble last week against Williamsville East got back to their winning ways, extinguishing those same Flames this past Tuesday night in a thrilling five set victory, then last night, they tamed the Panthers of Sweet Home High School to boot. This moved the Spartans to 6-1 overall, and they are tied for first place in league play with a 5-1 record. However, this is no time to be complacent, as they have a tough league match up tonight with West Seneca East on the road at 5:00PM.
