    1.   Position:  Teacher Aide - Full Time Probationary 

    Location:  Fricano Primary School - Attendance Office  

    Effective Date: August 27, 2019 

    Compensation:  Per CSEA Clerical/TA Contract.  Starting wage for 19-20, $16.76 hr.

     Qualifications:

    • Must meet Civil Service Requirements
    • Will be required to pass drug screening
    • NYSED fingerprint clearance required

     DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:  This title is employed for positions which are created for the main purpose of relieving schoolteachers of that part of their duties which, while related to the teaching process, can be performed by non-professional personnel.  The duties assigned are in accordance with NYS Commissioner of Education Regulation §80-5.6.  An incumbent may be assigned to classrooms or to aid one or more students based upon an IEP for mobility and/or safety issues.  The duties of this class differ from those of School Monitor due to the more complex nature of the assignments that are performed.  The duties of this class differ from those of Personal Care Aide in that a Teacher Aide will not be assigned to student diapering, feeding equipment, or use of medical devices.   The work is performed under the direct supervision of the teacher or administrator.  Does related work as required. 

    TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

    1. Assists students with the use of technical/computer or electronic equipment in study labs or classrooms;
    2. Helps to set up science laboratory equipment, conduct experiments and performs limited review of student laboratory reports;
    3. Helps in the technical preparation and production of television programs or other audio visual aides;
    4. Reads to children in lower grades;
    5. Provides musical accompaniment;
    6. Proctors examinations and helps to conduct examinations and study halls;
    7. May assist teachers in the correction of test papers, recording of grades, maintaining files and preparing statistical reports;
    8. May assist in the school library;
    9. May assist in the computer lab;
    10. May perform incidental clerical duties such as sorting, alphabetizing, filing, making copies, entering data, maintaining attendance records, and typing;
    11. Escorts students to and from buses, classrooms, bathroom, and lunchroom;
    12. May be assigned to attend to the physical and care needs of a student or students relating to safety, care and management, mobility and/or material management needs as mandated by an IEP and not designated specifically under a different title.

     FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

    Working knowledge or good background in specific field where specialized duties are involved; working knowledge of modern computer programs; good social and communication skills; ability to establish good relationships with children, co-workers, and others; ability to maintain discipline; ability to follow simple oral and written instructions; good general intelligence; familiarity with classroom routine; above average clerical aptitude; resourcefulness in conducting above described activities indirectly related to teaching process; neat personal appearance; tact; courtesy; good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

     MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Candidates must meet one of the following:

    1. Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma; OR

     

    1. Childcare experience or experience or knowledge in a particular field where specialized duties are involved; OR

     

    1. 600 hours of satisfactory experience as a Volunteer or Monitor in a School System; OR

     

    1. 600 hours of satisfactory leadership experience in a community, church, or educational/recreational organization involving children.

     

    2.      Position:  Laborer - Full Time Probationary 

    Location:  District Wide  

    Effective Date: ASAP  

    Compensation:  Per CSEA Buildings & Grounds contract.  Starting wage for 18-19, $16.88 hr.   19-20, $18.37 hr.

    Shift:  3:00 PM - 11:00 PM 

    Qualifications:

    • Must meet Civil Service Requirements
    • Will be required to pass drug screening
    • NYSED fingerprint clearance required

    DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:  The work involves performing unskilled and semi-skilled manual work.  The incumbent may be assigned cleaning tasks both indoors and outdoors to include parking lots, sidewalks, hallways, and rooms.  Incumbents may be assigned routine repair tasks.  Under the direct supervision of an employee of higher rank, the incumbent performs routine work requiring physical strength, endurance and a willingness to perform heavy work.  Does related work as required.

      TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES (Illustrative only and not limited to): 

    1. Acts as a messenger and makes deliveries;
    2. Cleans and services buildings by sweeping, mopping and waxing floors in offices, halls, classrooms, restrooms, locker rooms, and other common areas;
    3. Cleans lighting fixtures, replaces light bulbs, and washes windows, moves furniture, equipment, washes walls and vehicles, and other cleaning duties;
    4. Assists with outside work such as sweeping walks, shoveling snow, cutting lawns, trimming hedges, etc;
    5. Cleans and performs minor maintenance on trucks, tractors, assigned vehicles and tools;
    6. Picks up and disposes of trash or soiled linen;
    7. Assists with the loading and unloading of trucks including garbage, rubbish, gravel, sand, stone, building materials, supplies, and etc;
    8. May assist with road work, ditch digging;
    9. May assist with snow removal and plowing, sanding and salting of roads, erection and removal of snow fences and signs, picking up trash, cutting grass, trimming trees and bushes, weeding, and may apply lawn care products as assigned, etc.;
    10. Operates motorized equipment as required in carrying out these assigned duties, may for training or in an emergency operate trucks and assigned vehicles within the New York State Motor Vehicle regulations;
    11. Performs related minor maintenance repair tasks indoors and outdoors including, but not limited to, the repair of desks, cabinets, and painting walls and sports field lines. 

    FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:  Working knowledge of the maintenance and repair of buildings, fixtures and equipment; ability to make a variety of simple repairs and adjustments to buildings and equipment; ability to perform unskilled maintenance on motorized equipment; ability to plow snow and perform routine buildings and grounds maintenance; ability to lift heavy weights; willingness to perform routine manual work; willingness to work under all weather conditions; physical endurance; physical condition commensurate with the requirements of the position. 

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Possession of a valid New York State Motor Vehicle license to operate assigned vehicles at time of appointment and throughout employment.
