    COURSE OBJECTIVES/GOALS:

    The goal of these units is to give the learner an appreciation of the living environment.  The learner will also gain insight into the nature of science and the manner in which scientific knowledge is accumulated.

     

    COURSE CONTENT/MAJOR TOPICS OF STUDY:

    1)   Organization of Life

    2)   Heredity and Genetics

    3)   Evolution: Change Over Time

    4)   Reproduction and Development

    5)   Homeostasis

    6)   Ecology

    7)   Human Impact of the Environment

    8)   Laboratory Skills: Scientific Inquiry and Technique

     

    COURSE MATERIALS REQUIRED:

    • A three ring binder full of paper (this will be used to store and organize class notes, handouts, etc.)

    • Your textbook – Biology

    • A blue/black pen

    • A #2 pencil with an eraser

    • A highlighter

    • Folder for lab

    • Colored pencils

     

    COURSE ASSESSMENT/GRADING:

    • Throughout each marking period there are a variety of homework assignments, tests, quizzes, and lab assignments.  Grading will be on the basics of raw scores.  Extra credit is not given.

    • The value breakdown for determining your final grade is as follows:

      • 80% - Average on unit tests, quizzes, and homework

      • 20% - Lab average

     

    HOMEWORK POLICY:

    • Students are to review class notes daily to increase success in this course.

    • All homework that is collected will be assessed.  Assignments will be graded out of 10, 20, or 30 points dependent upon activity.

    • Late assignments of any kind will not be accepted.  If absent when work is assigned, student must come to receive assignments one day after the return to school.  Make-ups of undone or incomplete homework will not be allowed except for extenuating circumstances in the judgment of the instructor only.

    • Castle Learning assignments will be frequently given.  It is important that you have logged on and have access to a computer at school or at home.  Remember – internet issues are NOT an acceptable excuse for non-completion of Castle Learning assignments.

    • Google Classroom assignments will also be posted throughout the year.  Students are expected to check daily.

     

    MAKE-UP POLICY:

    Tests, quizzes, and homework assignments missed due to absence from class MUST BE MADE UP. It is the student’s responsibility to ask the teacher for work.

     

    CLASSROOM RULES:

    • Come to class on time.

    • Be respectful.

    • Earn the grade that you deserve/do your own work.

    • Work quietly and in a safe manner.
