Code of Conduct
-
The Starpoint Board of Education is committed to providing a safe and orderly school environment where students may receive and district personnel may deliver quality educational services without disruption or interference. Responsible behavior by students, teachers, other district personnel, parents and other visitors is essential to achieveing this goal.
The district has a long standing set of expectations for conduct on school property, on a school bus, and at school functions. These expectations are based on the principles of civility, mutual respect, citizenship, character, tolerance, honesty and integrity.
The Board recognizes the need to clearly define these expectations for acceptable conduct on school property, identify the consequences of unacceptable conduct, and to ensure that discipline, when necessary, is administered promptly and fairly. To this end, the Board adopts this Code of Conduct that applies to all students, school personnel, parents and other visitors when on school property, on a school bus or attending a school function. The conduct of students who participate on interscholastic sports teams, who are members of student clubs or organizations, or who participate in extracurricular activities will be held to a higher standard; the rules for these students apply both on and off school district property. Students participating in the district’s extracurricular or interscholastic activities and their parents must sign a written statement that the student will refrain from using alcohol, tobacco and illegal drugs in order to participate in any district extracurricular or interscholastic activities. Disciplinary sanctions regarding students are set forth in this Code of Conduct.
