    • And now a message from Dr. Gray...."Good morning, as we approach the start of a new month, I wanted to take this opportunity to speak with you about some building-wide events that will be taking place.  At the Middle School and the High School, we will be using March as a time to focus on how we as a school and a community are inclusive of all.  Although there are months dedicated to black history, women's history, Hispanic history, disability awareness, and many others, being mindful of the stories and perspectives of those we work, live, and learn with should never be reserved for one specific month or day.  Instead, inclusivity, kindness, and openness should be traits that define our interactions with others 12 months out of the year and in all settings.  With this in mind, we hope that you will use this month and our special events like our inclusivity pledge and mural, as a starting point for the lifelong process of developing and applying an inclusive mindset. Starpoint Middle is a great place, but that does not mean that we do not have work to do. I challenge each of you to think deeply about how you demonstrate inclusivity in your daily lives, and the positive impact this commitment can have on our building and community."

    • The JV girls basketball team ended their season with a 38-29 win over Sweet Home. Gabby Schmidt had a big basket in the 4th quarter to open the lead. Both Gabby and Tori Kowalewski played hard all season and were a big part of our success.

    • Congratulations to the girls hockey team on an unforgettable season.  The girls lost 4-0 in the sectional finals against Kenmore/Grand Island/Lockport.  From 0-16 in their inaugural season a short 5 years ago to sectional runner-ups is a great achievement.  The program has many things to look forward to in the future.  The girls would like to thank the boys hockey team, student section, administrators and teachers who came to the game last night.

    • Congratulations to the students that performed in the All County Elementary Band & Junior High Chorus this past weekend at Newfane High School. The student performers were a great representation of Starpoint Middle and put on excellent concerts! Bravo!
    • The Boys swim team placed 3rd out of 14 teams this weekend in the Section VI Class B Swim Championships. Joe Tacca contributed to the scoring with a 10th place finish in the 500 Free shattering his best time by 9 seconds while also swimming on the 7th place 200 Free Relay.  Sam Wichart also placed in the 500 Free. Grant Benedict swam his best time while finishing 15th in the 100 back. Great Season Boys.

     

    Friday, February 10th - C day

    • The modified boys basketball team took a long trip to Frontier Middle  last night and earned a well deserved team win 30-27. Quinn Vogel lead all scorers with 11. Ethan Wilkinson chipped in 7. Great defensive plays from Jack Berndt, Nate Milleville, and Joe Castiglione kept the Spartans in the game. Alex Jurewicz, Kyle Kuhns, and David Chase cleaned up any rebound they could get their hands on. They limited second chance opportunities for Frontier all night. The team will be back on the court Saturday morning at Roy hart and Monday evening at Will East.
    • Oh what a night! The girls hockey team won in triple overtime against HEWS 2-1. Not only did the girls set a record for the longest game in girl’s section 6 history, they also advanced to the Section 6 finals for the first time in their short 5 year existence. Madison Mallone scored less than 2 minutes in the 3rd to tie the game. Mara Beiter scored shortly after a missed penalty shot to win the game. Sammy Latini chipped in with an assist.

    • Congratulations to the girls on their win against CASH in the first round of sectionals.  The girls move on to the semifinals Thursday against HEWS, 6:30 at Northtown. Maddy Jagow had an assist in the victory.
    • Last night the modified girls basketball team improved their record to 7-3. They defeated Amherst at home 42-12! Baylee Budz baller was on fire once again. She scored 12 points for the Lady Spartans! Isabella Figliomeni was also heating up the court last night with 10 points! Also scoring for the Lady Spartans was Gianna Abramo and Kennedy Szpilewski with 6 points each! Rowan Hill, Ava O’callaghan, Emilia Prezioso, and Fiona Schmidt contributed two points each! Olivia Schmidt made several attempts to score a basket. Great job girls!
    • Congratulations go out to the modified swim team for their undefeated swim season. A great job was done by all in our meet against Amherst last night. Hope to see all the seventh graders again next year!

    • Today is the first day of National School Counseling Week. The theme of this year’s week is “School Counselors: Helping Students Dream Big.” Did you know that your counselor's number one goal is to help you succeed? Whatever you need to be successful at school – whether that’s learning how to stay motivated to complete your work, having positive relationships with your fellow students, advocating for yourself or overcoming barriers – they are here for it.  Sometimes achieving your dreams IS hard, but counselors are there to help you not give up. As your school counselors, they want to help you achieve your dreams. What are your dreams? How can they help you make a plan to achieve them? Let’s talk about it. Have a great Monday!

    • On Saturday the girls modified basketball team traveled to Iroquois to beat the chiefs 25-20! Baylee Budz was heating It up on the floor once again scoring 8 points for the team. Also scoring points for the team was Gianna Abramo, Isabella Figliomeni, Sophia Full, Emilia Prezioso, Fiona Schmidt, Olivia Schmidt, and Kennedy Szpilewski. The team was on fire defensively! Great job girls! The team is now 6 and 3.
    • On Saturday, the JV girls basketball team beat Grand Island, 44-33. Tori Kowalewski had 4 points and Gabby Schmidt added  2 in the 4th quarter to help secure the win!
    • The JV & Varsity cheerleaders competed in the Quaker Cheer Challenge in Orchard Park yesterday.  Both teams took FIRST PLACE and the Varsity cheerleaders were GRAND CHAMPIONS for the entire day!  The Lady Spartans are undefeated for the season!
    • The Boys Varsity Swim Team finished 8th in the Large School ECIC Championship on Saturday. Joe Tacca swam 3 best times, dropping 9 seconds and 18 seconds in the 200 and 500 Free while placing 16th in the 500 Free. Sam Wichart swam 3 best times, dropping a whopping 28 seconds in the 500 Free and qualifying for the Class B Sectional meet. Grant Benedict dropped 3 seconds in the 100 Backstroke. Colin Campbell and Noah LaRoch each swam best times also. Sam, Joe and Grant will all swim in the Class B Sectional Championships this weekend. Great Job boys!

Also scoring points for the lady Spartans was Isabella Figliomeni, Maria Kwasniak, Ava O’Callaghan, Micca Smith, and Kennedy Szpilewski.
