Some things the kids will learn

this year in Kindergarten

Early Literacy Skills: Letters, sounds, phonemic awareness, sight words, comprehension strategies-- explicit phonics instruction, shared reading, interactive read alouds, guided reading groups

Math: develop a strong number sense, adding and subtracting, problem solving skills

Writer’s Workshop: oral storytelling, storytelling (both fiction & non-fiction) using drawings and labels, written communication in journals, response to literature, becoming authors and illustrators

Science/Social Studies/Character Education
