Today in homeroom, you are being asked to complete a brief questionnaire. This questionnaire is designed to help us better understand how familiar and confident you are with vocabulary related to diversity and inclusion. Your honest answers on this questionnaire will be critical as we continue to strive for a school that is welcoming and safe for all students. No identifying information, except for grade-level will be collected, which means that your responses are anonymous. An email with the link to the questionnaire has been sent to your Starpoint account. Once our morning announcements have finished, please open the link and complete the questionnaire. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support!

Juneteenth is a celebration of June 19, 1865: the day that the Union army came to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation in Galveston, Texas. By that date, the Civil War had already been over for more than two months. And it had been more than two years since the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued. In spite of the Emancipation Proclamation, many areas under Confederate control didn’t release enslaved people from bondage during the war. Juneteenth marks the date that changed in Texas—which was one of the most remote parts of the country during this time. Tomorrow, as we celebrate Juneteenth, we celebrate the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States and reflect on the challenges we have faced as a nation, the progress we have made, and all the work yet to be done.
