2012 Alumni Baseball Game

  • 7th Annual Alumni Baseball Game

    June 9, 2012

The 7th Annual Alumni Baseball Weekend was another big success.  It started with our golf outing at Deerwood Golf Course on Friday.  The team of Kyle Kozlowski (’07), Bob Britton (’07), Ross Johnston (’07), and Cory Clark (’05) had a nice round of -7 but the coaches group came in best at -9.  Awards Given: Closest to Pin—Rob Pusateri (’88)-2 times, and Longest Drive—Tim Racey.

Our annual game was played on Saturday.  The ceremonial first pitch was thrown out by Fred Maliszewski (’71), our oldest player; not far behind were Jack Pittsley (’73) and Russ Chaffee (’74) who all did very well.

Ross Johnston had the first hit of the game for the Grey Team (odd years).  A double play by the Garnet Team (even years) ended the threat.  In the bottom of the first, Don Rankie (’80) knocked in 2 runs to take the early lead.  In the second, Marc Gschwend’s (’03) triple and Eric Roberts’ (’07) 343 foot homerun got the Grey’s on the board.  The Garnet broke it open early in the bottom of 2 when Andy Boyce (’10) hit a 365 foot grand slam.  He followed his homerun with a diving catch in center field in the 3rd.  The Garnet dominated scoring throughout and they had the oldest players.  Justin Tate (’00) had a 2-run triple in the bottom of the 4th leading the way for the Garnet Team, but the Grey Team did not quit.

Gschwend and Kozlowski tripled to make it 13-4 after 6 ½ innings.  Garnet responded with a double by Andy Boyce, a triple by Jake Jenks (’04), and a sacrifice fly by Rob Pusateri.  15-4

Top of the 8th, Alex Boyce (’07), who flew in from NYC and his job with the New York Yankees, hit a 2-run double making the score 15-7.  Kozlowski added a 2-run double (15-9) and Johnston’s single RBI (15-10).  Bottom of the 8th—Russ Chaffee vs Marc Chaffee (’05) matchup; Russ singled.  With bases full, Jenks hit a 2-run double, score 17-10.

Top of 9th—Bob Britton’s 357 ft. homerun was all Grey could do.  Garnet wins!—17-11.

Our baseball announcer Gary Sheedy did a great job with calling the game and playing music.  Prizes were given away each inning.  Free hot dogs and drinks were given to all spectators and players.  Thanks to the cooks—Liz Sarkovics, Brenda Chaffee, and Cassie Rankie.

After 7 years, the Odd Years lead the series with 3 wins.  The Even Years have won twice and there were 2 ties.

We look forward to next years baseball alumni weekend.  Tentative dates are June 7th for golf and June 8th for the game.
