2010 Alumni Game
Third Annual Alumni Basketball Game
Wednesday March 10, 2010
The third annual Alumni Basketball Game continued to be a well-received event for our former Spartan players. Thirty-one alumni returned to compete this year.
Game 1 was a mix of players from all years but most of our veterans played this game since they needed to get home and get to bed (along with their kids). Team One took a 26-18 half-time lead and put it away with a 15-8 third quarter and a final 56-36 victory. Every player on Team One scored and were led by Matt Rankie (’02) with 12 and Todd Conklin (’00) with 10. Mark Ruppert (’79) showed he could still hit long range making two 3’s in his 8 points. Team Two was led by Rob Fraass (’89) with 9 points. Although a bit older than Team One, they still did a great job getting up and down the court.
Between games, we had our 3-point contest. After a play-in contest, Adam Schaffer (’07) took on Shawn Latini (’97). With 15 shots and a possible 18 points, Shawn scored a respectable 8 points, but Adam scored an outstanding 12 points to win this year’s trophy.
Game Two was close all the way. Team Three topped Team Four 77-70 in a shootout. If you like long-range shooting, Team Three delivered. They almost equaled their nineteen 2-point baskets hitting twelve 3-point shots. Team Four led by Jason Kroening’s (’00) 27 points and Jon Plail (’01) & Brad Matters (’04) splitting 26. Team Four took a 59-51 lead into the fourth quarter, but Team Three won the final quarter 26-11 to claim the victory. Shane Canahai (’07) led the way with 22 points—11 in the 4th—followed by Amir Billups (’08) with 16.
For the 3rd year in a row, we had a great turnout of alumni players as well as their families and friends. They are already looking forward to next year.
Our next alumni event will be the alumni baseball game scheduled for Sunday, June 13th.
