Each year our 6th graders discuss Internet safety with Mrs. Dungan, our Library Media Specialist in Information Literacy. The focus of this unit is how to behave as a digital citizen. Students understand their responsibility to act safely and respectfully online, tips for safe usernames and passwords, how to identify and avoid phishing scams, and how to prevent inappropriate or unsafe online talk. Further, students discuss and reflect on cyberbullying, learning how to become upstanders instead of bystanders when this occurs. Students are equipped with the necessary skills to protect themselves and others online and are aware of how to obtain help.
